Below you will find a description of the most important and representative monuments in Vejer de la Frontera.

Church of El Divino Salvador
An absolute must for any visitor to the town. The design is simple; it has two contrasting styles. The area towards the front of the main aisle is Visigoth while the remainder is Mudejar. The views from the areas surrounding the church are stunning.

During the Spanish civil war, the interior was completely destroyed, leaving little of the church’s riches intact.

Beneath the church lies a water deposit, large enough to be navigated through in a small boat. It was built by the Moors.

Plaza de España
This is a favorite spot for visitors & locals alike; a meeting place with numerous cafes and bars outside.

In the centre of the plaza, there is an ornate ceramic fountain “Plaza de los Pescaitos” featuring 4 spouting frogs. It is not as old as it seems. It only dates back to the early 1900´s.

A most attractive plaza, with date palms and bouganvilla bushes as a backdrop. There is an almost replica fountain in the main plaza of Algeciras.

The Arab Castle
The castle is located at the highest point in the old village. It dates back to the 10th and 11th centuries and has a jasmine scented courtyard.
Only one facade reveals this monuments history, the town has been built right around the edifice. During the summer school holidays, local scouts and guides show visitors around the ramparts.

Casa de Mayorazgo
This is a well kept private house with lots of colorful plants, and a large courtyard. From the corner tower of the old walls you can look down on the Plaza de España. It is open only during daylight hours. The staff are very friendly. Entry is free, but donations are accepted.
